Cardigan Mountain Road Between Tuttle Hill and Town House Remains Closed

The DOT had hoped to open the road this morning, but the heavy rain that hit Orange yesterday afternoon overwhelmed pumps that divert water from the ditch; the water made the site unsafe for crews to work.

As a result, Cardigan Mountain Road between Tuttle Hill Road and Town House Road will be closed until at least late this afternoon.

Ten DOT crew were on site by 6:15 this morning. They expect culvert repair work to be complete by the end of today (Thursday). Before the rains started yesterday, they installed five concrete culvert pieces, each eight feed long and four feet in diameter, weighing five tons. Four more of these pieces should get installed today. The crew will also be placing a concrete header on the north side of the road to “invite the water in.”

More of Cardigan Mountain Road between the Town House and Tug Mountain Road will be reclaimed in the weeks to come. That entire section from the Town House to the east side of the bridge will be re-paved in mid September.
